Why Rory McIlroy Won't Win The Malaysian Open
64
Rory McIlroy will tee off today in the Malaysian Open, and for me, it's came too early for him to win. Less than 4 days ago, McIlroy was leading The Masters at Augusta and dropped the lead badly on the back 9, to come no where. In the short space of time that he has had to think about The Masters and now, The Masters must still be on his mind. It's still on my mind, and I'm just a fan. I felt so bad for Rory when it started to go wrong, because we seen it happen at St. Andrews also. But he must and is no doubt looking at the positives from his experience at The Masters. One of the toughest courses in Golf, McIlroy led it for the first three days, and fell at the last hurdle, but we also forget that Rory is just 21 years of age. He will be at the top of The Masters time and time again for years to come. He is still learning the game, and the courses. I see Rory having a long and great career. He is smart on and off the course, and at 21, that is huge. His maturity is outstanding for such a young age and to even be considered a top contender at this age for a tournament like The Masters is greatness in itself. He is overachieving at 21, and if he keeps his feet on the ground and doesn't let any of his mistakes get to him, he'll become one of the greatest to ever swing a golf club.
The Maybank Malaysian Open will have come around too quick for him to win, but I wouldn't be that surprised if he did. He's the sort of person that will put The Masters behind him quickly and focus on the next task at hand. If you watched The Masters, then you'd have seen how calm he was when he came off his first three rounds. Rory will only grow from here, and take steps forward. He can only take The Masters experience as a positive that he competed and led quite comfortably for 3 days out the 4. It just started to go wrong for him when he so unluckily hit a tree, from then on it was downhill. His 4th day started with him showing how mature and steady he can be when he need be, but unfortunately it went wrong on the back 9. Things will happen like this though, because of his age, he will learn and won't make the same mistakes next time around. He learns quickly and will be one of the world's greatest for years to come. We will only see a better Rory McIlroy every time he goes out and plays and that's what we want. Everyone felt sorry for Rory when it started to go wrong, and it shows how many people back him to become great, and who already think he is great. I am one of those believers in that it will only help what happened to him. I never seen him winning it, even going into the 4th day. But I'll always see him challenging at the top each tournament, each round, each day.

I just saw that you were from Scotland. Lived in Dunoon for 3 years in the mid 80's. Loved you wonderful country, played golf, hiked daily (lived in a forestry cabin on Loch Eck), visted castles, drank beer and scotch, loved the flora... sheep, foothills to the highlands, all the wonders of Scotland... mostly fell in love with our neighbors who made us feel so welcome.
I'm hoping you are going to eat your words in a few hours!

I don't agree.. I think Rory has what it takes to do this. He needed to have his coach with him... that was his mistake at the Masters... if he had been coached, he would have won..
nice hub, i love golf... especially the Masters and Rory is such a great young player... hope you don't mind too much that I disagreed... hope I am right... but maybe you are...
