WWE - Why Christian Losing Was Good

On 5/6/11 edition of Smackdown, Christian lost his title that he had held for a very short 5 days. At first, when he won the title at Extreme Rules, it looked like Vince and others in WWE had finally realized his potential and put faith in him to carry the brand and the title. Christian lost the title to Randy Orton and although his stint as Champion was short lived, at least for now. I believe this will help Christian in the long term. He and Orton had a 20minute match, and honestly it was a PPV match. If Orton can give us more matches like he did in that one, then we'll be in for a good feud, as it looks likely Christian will turn heel sometime soon. What Orton and Christian gave us on Smackdown was a preview of what they can do together if booked right, and it worked well. Hopefully we'll be talking about more of their matches for years to come.

Christian's persona works best as a heel, and we haven't seen him work as a heel since he returned from TNA. The time is now for Christian to make that step up to Main Event level, that he's been grasping for the past few months now. Him and Orton are probably two of the biggest on Smackdown now, and that should give the feud a good length of time, rather than it being rushed as we so often see now a days.

On Tuesday night, after I read the spoilers, and saw it all over twitter, I was shocked at first. I was mostly angry at the fact that because I knew Vince doesn't think Christian is that level, that he had taken it off him for that reason, but it seems different, or so I hope, as we'll see how things progress in the next few weeks.

Randy Orton, is Championship material, there's no doubt about that and he is an amazing in-ring performer. But, personally I do want to finally see Christian getting a long run with the title as it'll help him stay at that level, and he deserves it. Not just because he's been in the business for 17 years, but because every match, whether it be on Raw, Smackdown, PPV or even a live event, Christian gives 100% in that ring, and that's all you can ask for. He is without doubt one of the most hard working in-ring performers I've ever seen, and deserves a run at the title. He is good enough and not only does he give 100%, he puts on a classic match each and every time he steps through those ropes. He makes the other guy look better than he is, and sells everything perfectly.

I hope that next Friday's Smackdown will be the turning point of his character becoming heel, and a new start for Christian at Main Event level.

I'm also done with Spoilers.
